Les Residents sont un immense groupe non seulement par leurs propres créations, qu'elles soient musicales, audiovisuelles, graphiques ou plastiques, mais aussi par leur label RALPH RECORDS qui a abrité, lancé, appuyé, soutenu un nombre de groupes importants en sortant par exemple les premiers disques de Fred Frith (période post-Henry Cow/Art Bears), Snakefinger, Tuxedomoon, Renaldo & The Loaf ou Yello. 

On pourra entendre une reprise des Residents par Ptôse dont le morceau emblématique "Boule" est repris ensuite par les britanniques Renaldo & The Loaf. On pourra entendre le DJ amércain Penn Jilette raconter son expérience traumatisante d'écoute forcée des 10 ans de productions du label et on terminera l'émission avec deux reprises survoltées des Residents plus récentes.

Bien plus que les Residents français - surnom auquel on les limite souvent - même s'ils partagent le même goût pour la musique bancale et un univers absurde, Ptôse, groupe de Niort créé en 1979, est le symbole même de ce que l'esprit DIY/post-punk a pu apporter de mieux à la musique de nos provinces, explosant les cénacles parisiens.

Des jeunes gens modernes ? Oui, des jeunes gens qui s'ennuient dans leurs Deux-Sèvres, entre le marais poitevin et les Mutuelles d'assurances et qui par leur esprit fougueux, inventif et hors-limite ont su dépasser les frontières, créer un réseau international de collaborations par cassettes interposées, au packaging amusant et soigné, décalé et bizarre, à l'image de leur musique évoluant entre le minimalisme synthétique, le post-punk enragé (notamment en live) et des arrangements aux instrumentations plus complexes.

Des jeunes gens modernes ? Oui, des jeunes gens qui écoutent de la musique pour oublier les mornes rues niortaises, auteurs de mélodies pop imparables, habités par l'esprit aventureux de Dada et des surréalistes, sans concession mais sans chapelle, un esprit électrique, électrifié et électrisant qui répètent sans cesse en dix ans d'activités les mêmes morceaux, les transformant, les améliorant, les dynamitant, des jeunes gens qui jouent et qui s'amusent dans l'expérimentation et le bizarre.

Le label Infrastition (Philippe Perreaudin / Palo Alto) réédite les deux derniers albums de Ptôse : "The Swoop" (1984), "Face de Crabe" (1986) agrémentés d'inédits et d'un CD bonus ultra limité d'un Live de 1983. C'est l'occasion de voyager dans le monde pas si anormalement bas et relâché de Ptôse !
